Default Naive people dropping items

So something that happened just now had me wondering...

We had just zoned out form Umbral Grotto to go on a VS farm, when the perma says "someone drop their vs." Usually you expect no one to do this, but ...

One person drops their spear, and the perma promptly picks it up.

To make a long story short, we stayed for about 20 minutes just trying to convince this (apparently 15 year old) kid to give the spear back, all while he's basically taunting the person. In the end, it's just me, the "victim," and the perma, who then "disconnects" and does not come back; everyone else had given up trying to convince him and had left.

My questions is, how do you guys feel about this? Did the person that dropped the spear deserve what they got? Is it depressing to anyone else that people will actually do this then keep the item?

I just want to hear what you guys have to say about stuff like this, since I find it to be one of the most pathetic things that happens in virtual worlds like GW.

whoever dropped their vs is a tard. I drop my vs's on occasion but i'm NOWHERE NEAR anyone, not in compass range at all. Only when people start dropping other things and I just like to trump them.

If someone drops an item, it's fair game, period. If someone dropped their vs in front of me and I was quick to pick it up, it's mine. I have no qualms at all about it. If you're dumb enough to put it out there, you deserve to have it taken.

Next time hotkey to target nothing and spam spacebar while dropping, or drop somewhere out of any possible shadow step range.

Whilst I agree whoever did that is an idiot, I wouldn't say they deserve to lose it. I'd probably pick it up, taunt him for say 5 minutes, and give it back after that to teach him a lesson.

they'll learn the lesson that they can get their item back if they drop it in an instance with pugs, so they might do it again later, probably try to be more sly about it, and get punked again.

If they lose it, they'll never do it again, lesson learned. I'll never pass up a chance to profit from someone's stupidity.

Whenever someone asks you to trust them by dropping an item or armor or whatever, you have a couple of choices:
A) Don't trust them and find another service without the requirement if one is available.
B) Trust them and chance it. Potentially has the chance to make things easier or save time, but may result in losing everything involved.

If you drop something, you're choosing choice B. I'd rather wait it out than take such a risk, especially with an expensive item.

I heard some one dropped 250 ectos and the same thing happend today while vs farming. I think this farm brings all the stupid players out. If you drop it, its fair game. imo

It wasn't even for a trade...he just asked SOMEONE to drop their VS, probably spamming the spacebar the whole time hoping for a bite...and he got one. Good on him.

You dropped the spear. Once it hits the ground, it's no longer yours. Was it a pathetic scam attempt? Yes. Did you learn your lesson? Hopefully.

Sorry for your loss, but hopefully you'll be smarter next time. There's not going to be a constructive/relative discussion here, so I'm going to close the thread.
